METU (ODTÜ ın Turkısh) ıs one of the oldest Turkısh state unıversıtıes. In 2003 it established a campus in the Omorfo/Kapouti area of Cyprus, which is home to approximately 4,000 students. Around 500 workers are employed there either full time, part time or through private service contracts. Many local businesses in the area rely heavily on footfall from the university. The students are mostly fee paying, although some receive full or partial bursaries from the Turkish state. The Cyprus campus is also very international, in that it attracts not just Turkish and Cypriot students. There are several hundred students from around the middle east and north Africa, who pay between $6.000 and $9,450 annually in course fees.

Ersin Tatar, the candidate of the traditional right wing nationalist party UBP won the elections of the 18th of October in northern Cyprus. With 51.69% to 48.31% defeated Mustafa Akinci, the social democrat president that was in office since 2015. Northern Cyprus is a semi-presidential democratic republic. The role of the president is mainly to negotiate the national question and represent the “state” abroad. The government is formed by the party that has majority in the parliament, while the president has (almost) no authority to the internal regime.
The current European Union is far from the Europe/family that the
advertisements of the state for the current Euroelections are
presenting in the media.
The reality is that the current EU is dominated by austerity policies that serve the profits of big capital and lead workers and youth to poverty and unemployment. The real power, of course, lies in the economic elite and not in the European Parliament, which plays a decorative role.
Hükümetin kriz karşısında ortaya koyduğu önlem paketleri, TC hükümetinin her ekonomik protokol ile KKTC’ye, IMF’in borç verdiği ülkelere ve TROYKA’nın Güney Kıbrıs’a empoze ettiği kemer sıkma politikalarının aynısıdır.
